Grocery Shopping: Love & War

groceriesWhat kills me is how absolutely nothing happens in your life that cannot be seen in your chart. Here’s an example of this. Mars conjunct Mercury (a red motorcycle on a short trip)… in Libra (partnership).

Then there is Libra balance involved as well as the attempts to control that are part and parcel of the Cardinal signs. The solider has Mercury in Aries, opposing so it’s all tied together.

This is still 2003.  He’s restoring my memories.

“Do you remember how we got our groceries, Els?”

“No.”

“Well we had to get ’em. We figured out how at that first apartment.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah. Someone had to go to the grocery store, but who? Who was going to go? I didn’t want go. You didn’t want to go either. Neither of us wanted to go. We both refused but someone had to go because we were out of food.”

“So what did we do?”

‘Well at first, I told you go,” he said.

I laughed. “Did I do it?”

“No. you told me to go. You said, no you go. And I said, no you go. You go. No, you go.”

“Yep. Then what?”

“Well one of us told the other one, I don’t want to go unless you go with me.”

“Ohhhh…”

“See? We didn’t want to separate at all. Neither one of us wanted to go without the other. Not even long enough to go to the store if you can believe that. You don’t want to go without me? Well I don’t want to go without you, either! I didn’t want to go to the store because I would have to leave you to do it and you didn’t want to go for the same reason.”

“Yeah, I remember this now,” I said.

“So once we figured that out, I said we ought to go together then. I’ll go if you’ll go. And you said, yeah okay! We’ll go together. And sure enough we got on the bike and went to the grocery store.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah, but then we had a problem.”

“What problem?”

“Well, we came walking out that first time and we had two bags of groceries. So now what?”

“What do you mean?”

“How are we going to get home? How are we going to get the groceries home? If it was just one of us on the bike we could have strapped them to the seat, right?”

“Right?”

“So now what? Does one us ride home with the groceries and then come back for the other?”

“Is that what we did?”

“No! Nobody wanted to do that either. We didn’t want to separate, remember? That was what we were trying to avoid.”

“I see.”

red kawasaki“Yeah. See we never had enough time together, ever. So whatever time we had, was spent together because that’s the way we wanted it. We didn’t want it any other way. So now we were standing next to the bike… and it was a little bike too. It’s not like it was good-sized. It wasn’t roomy on that thing, so there we were with these two big bags of groceries and this little bike, thinking now what?”

“What did we do?”

“Well, what else could we do? We got on the bike together, me, you and the groceries and I drove us home with you holding them.”

“How?”

“Oh, well you sat behind me.  You put the two bags between us, brown paper bags, this was, back in those days. So you held one in each arm, cradling them and then squished them between us and grabbed onto my shirt. Okay, go!” he laughed. “Okay, now get going!” I laughed.

“You had a hard time holding on, too. You could barely do it. It was all you could do to reach around those bags and grab me but you did it. You got it done.”

“Sounds perilous.”

“It was. Now you be careful on the corners, you said. Don’t you dump us! I’m the one who is supposed to not fall off and spill this stuff! You didn’t want anything to fall out of the tops of the bags back there,” he said with a chuckle.

I laughed back, nervously. “God, I’m bossy. So did you dump us?”

egg carton“No, we never did dump. We always got home completely safe. We never so much as broke an egg, I don’t think”

“Okay, good.”

“And that’s how we got our groceries from then on out. We liked it. We always went together. In fact, we waited so we could go together. Once we did that that first time, we decided we liked it and wanted to do it all the time. You in that green flight jacket. Remember that jacket I gave you?”

“I do. That was the only coat I had I didn’t have a coat until you gave me that.”

“Oh. Well you looked good in that coat. It was a big ol’ jacket. It was warm. But anyway, E. I just think it’s funny we couldn’t manage to separate long enough one of us could go to the store. Nope. We had to go together and risk our lives in the process. That’s just how it was. We were in our own world, E. We had this whole world back then and we were the only ones in it. So anyway, this is the kind of stuff I would think about when I was out on patrol, somewhere out in bumfuck. You on the back of that bike holding those groceries and telling me what to do. God, I should have married her. Why didn’t I marry her?”
